Boston

As usual I'm always getting into trouble for taking innocent pictures. I had this sarcastic security guard following me around in his golf cart mobile. So these were the only ones I Could take.

The image of the sunset was taken at Historical Walden Pond in Concord, Ma.

Good week for Photography

As many of you may or may not know.  This site is primarily dedicated to my journey as newbie photographer as well as tips and all things photography in general. This week I was contacted by Getty Images that one of their clients were interested in licensing one of my photos.  To me that is a big deal because it kind of makes this thing I do for fun more than just an expensive hobby.  Once Getty Images contact you, that is the only way to sign up as a Contributor.  It wasn't the easiest process but I'm still fortunate enough to be asked to join.

I also decided to join the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA).  I'm not sure where this will lead me but I still decided to take the plunge.   I will be joining the IAPP as I believe they have more benefits and discounts.  One thing to mention which I think is pretty stupid with the NPPA, is that once you pay to become a member you have to pay additional for the ID Card.  I did think that was misleading.

Last but not least while checking my Flickr accounts traffic noticed traffic from www.CameraShowdown.com.  While I was scrolling down until I saw my image I saw that My photo beat the other guy.  This made my day.

Dramatic HDR

I was driving to my hotel today and noticed what I thought would be an awesome location for a Dramatic HDR Image.  This image is comprised of 3 shots at 2 stops apart.  I used Toned Mapping in Photomatix.  I would also like to note that the trouble and attention this brought to me was not cool and I'll never forget this day for as long as I live.

Setting Daily Assignments

Step your game up.  Give yourself daily assignments and get out there and shoot.  Today I decided it was vintage day.  I looked around and found this old Peerflekta V stuffed in some old metal closet in a basement.  By giving yourself assignments you will not get rusty.  Not only that but it will help you with your composition as well. Here is a good example to get you started. http://www.picturecorrect.com/tips/10-photography-assignments-to-stimulate-your-creativity/.

Apple iOS 6.x Jailbreak Near Completion

To all you Apple Fanboy Photographers the Evasi0n Team is just about to release the iOS 6.x jailbreak.  Although they have had this jbfor quite sometime they were waiting for Apple to release the iOS 6.1 beta which was released two days ago.  I have been waiting for this JB anxiously.  This is very good news for those of us who have invested in the Cydia 3rd Party Market.

Misoulla Montana

Here are images from a recent trip to Misoulla, Montana.  On trip I brought my D600, Sunpak CarbonFiber Tripod, 50mm 1.8G, and 70-300mm 3.5.  There was snow everywhere.  Virtually every attraction was closed for the season.  I drove for 8 hours for a great location to shoot.  This is basically what I could come up with and I was unprepared with the unexpected snowstorm.

New Nikon 18-35MM Lens

Although I have not gotten my hands on this bad boy I will pick it up soon.  It doesn't have the 2.8 Aperture like Nikon's Holy Trinity but it's still a pretty nice wide angle lens for those landscapes or street photography.  It's price at B&H last I checked was $749.  I will make sure to upload the images from the first shoot.

2 Months With MY Nikon D600

I have made the small jump from the D7000 to the d600.  All though there are plenty of similarities as build, focus system, and size there are major differences.  It has built in Time Lapse Video, and HDR, and most importantly it's a Full Frame Sensor.  I have the extra battery grip which it makes me feel like I have a Nikon D4.  If your really looking to be a serious amateur.  I recommend this bad boy to you.  You will not be disappointed.  You don't need to jump to a D800.  This camera even has a faster FPS than the D800.  I haven't noticed the Anti-Aliasing problem also introduced in the D800 as well.  If you've bought this camera do comment below and tell me what you love or hate about it.

Long Exposure Quick Post

Today I shot the Brooklyn Bridge and the Varrazano's Bridge in NYC with my D600.

All The Rage

This picture just hit Popular status on 500px.com.  Surprisingly it's not doing as well on Flickr where I usually get more traffic with my photography.  I used a Nikon 50mm 1.8G lens with a D600 and no filters.  When I do long exposures I always  Manual mode.  I am always at ISO 100 while my Aperture is between 11-16.  As for the shutter speed that all depends on my available light and whether or not I have a remote.  If I have a trigger remote handy I'll shoot in bulb mode.  The most important thing also is to have a sturdy tripod.  A good tip is to make sure your strap is not dangling in the wind.  If so it will cause the image to be blurry.

Another Bad Day

If losing my Tripod the other day wasn't bad enough today I left my 70-300mm Nikon Lens on a park bench.  I mean I might as well just have wrapped it as a Christmas gift.  Now that I'm done beating myself up let's discuss today's shoot.  I first started shooting with my 50mm 1.8G Nikon lens.  I'm pretty happy with this lens.  Sure it's not a 1.4 but that's ok I'm not a professional.  I was in the mood for street photography so I started at Washington Sq. Park by NYU.  Once it got dark I headed to one of my favorite places Weehawken, NJ.  The Empire State building was light up with Christmas Colors and I couldn't miss it.

Fort Lee Historical Park i New Jersey

I won't stop until I visit every landmark New Jersey has to offer.  Yesterday I visited the Fort Lee Historical Park which overlooks the Hudson River, New York City, and of course the George Washington Bridge.  The light was changing quickly here so I came out with a ton of different exposures.  Today I was only using "P" mode due to the quickly changing available light.  My long exposures were all shot in Manual Mode.

A Lesson Learned

I just got back from Bayonne, New Jersey where I took a picture of the Bayonne Bridge. I usually have a strict recipe for my long exposure shots while shooting in Manual Mode. Today it seems I forgot I had my ISO to 500.  While these pictures looked "awesome" on my LCD screen in the back of the camera, you can see all the digital noise in the photo.

Lost in New Jersey

My D600 is like my MasterCard I never leave anywhere with out it.  Yesterday while driving to a site visit in Princeton, New Jersey as usual my iPhone 5 navigated me to an incorrect address.   Although there was complete overcast today, at least I was able to snap a decent picture.

First Shoot With Nikon D600

I've just got my hands on a beautiful Nikon D600 with a kit lens which is a 24-85mm 3.5-4.5.   I already know what you folks are thinking..  If your going to buy a full frame camera buy good glass.  Unfortunately I'm not a paid professional photographer that can simply buy a 24-70mm 2.8.  None the less I am extremely happy with the image quality.  I was shooting between 1600-3200 ISO and didn't notice any noise in my photos.

Camera of the Year

As per DigitalCameraInfo.com The Canon EOS 1Dx is camera of the year.  This is Canon's Flagship camera geared for the seasoned professional at a whopping price of $6,800 (body only). While this camera only has 18.1Mp, this tank has a Dual DIGIC 5+ Processor which makes for some pretty fast FPS shooting.  I sure hope I was good this year so Santa can leave this bad boy under my tree.

Obama Blue

Early on Election Day I heard on CNN that the Empire State Building was going to light Blue if Obama won and Red if Romney won.  Later that night I rushed to Weehawken, New Jersey.  The moment the results were in I had my finger on the trigger and the rest is history.  This photo already has 20,000+ views on my flicker account.  Which for me, as a newbie photographer is mind blowing.
